For many youngsters of Vizag who faced the brunt of the cyclone Hudhud, the mission for the day now is to clear the uprooted trees and other debris, which have filled the city’s streets. The city is now witnessing most of the decades old trees getting uprooted even as the residents reported instances of window crashing, apartments developing cracks and homes becoming flooded.

Shaken and by the destruction caused by the cyclone, nobody in Vizag have ever seen nature’s fury getting unleashed with such cruelty. Residents feel it may take several decades for Vizag to restore its lost status.  There is a feeling that unless the army steps in, even cleaning the city’s debris wouldn’t be completed in the near future.

Almost all the cell towers in the city have collapsed. The entire Dutt Island Building at Siripuram was devastated while the Cyclone Warning Centre itself has been submerged in flood waters since radar was rendered dysfunctional. The state authorities were forced to use Navy’s radar facility.
