Roja has been tagged as jinxed as she never won in elections. Given that Roja lost elections consecutively in 2004 and 2009, few of her colleagues have dubbed her, in the past, as “Iron Leg”. In fact, Roja lost the battle in 2004 when she contested on TDP ticket from Nagiri. She later, in 2009, shifted to Chandragiri and contested against Galla Aruna Kumari and lost there too. Despite Chandragiri being TDP’s foothold (as Chandra Babu won twice from Chandragiri before shifting to Kuppam and his brother Nara Rammurthy Naidu won once from there), Roja’s “Iron Leg” seems to have worked against TDP in both 2004 and 2009. Also, there was a strong gossip that Roja’s foot in Congress (Roja quit TDP and joined YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s Congress in 2009) have worsened things within days (some say: “including the death of YS Rajasekhar Reddy on September 2”). And soon after she sailed with Jagan’s YSR Congress, Jagan Reddy had to face 16-month-long jail term.
Now that Roja has joined Jagan’s party fold and contesting for Nagiri (Again moved from Chadragiri to Nagiri) on YSRCP ticket, the speculation is that Roja would be “Iron Leg” for Jagan as well. Already opinion polls show clear wave for TDP-BJP alliance. Moreover, she has to slug it out with TDP senior leader Gali Muddu Krishnam Naidu. Let’s wait and see whether Roja break her jinx tag this time around or not.
