The recommendations of Sivaramakrishnan Committee might contradict with the views of Andhra Pradesh State government but there lies a greater cause behind AP govt. projecting Vijayawada as its future capital.

Capital should be located centrally but not in the borders of neighbouring state. If by any chance, capital is situated closely towards adjacent States like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Orissa, it would be great loss for the State in trade, business and investments. The ideal location to set up a state capital is between Vijayawada and Guntur so that the adjacent locales will be simultaneously developed. At the same time, AP government is very much keen on the progress of other areas like Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Prakasam, Kurnool, Anantapur, Nellore and hence going to build/renovate 14 airports for the 13 districts. Also, the plan includes developing Vizag as IT and Film hub and Anantapur as Hardware hub.

“The only problem for picking up Vijayawada-Guntur as capital would be non-availability of lands for government. However, Naidu knows how to tackle this tactically and he has already prepared a uniform solution to this problem which will benefit all,” said a top source in the government. He added that there is “no loss” as mentioned by the Sivaramakrishnan Committee report. Moreover, rather than constructing a capital in village, establishing it between two major cities Vijayawada and Guntur is suggestible as it acts as a booster for global investments. “Only after considering several options and thinking in all dimensions, AP govt. is keen on setting up capital between Vijayawada and Guntur. And developing a mega Singapore-like capital too is no wrong as government is also firm on making smart cities,” source concludes.
