Changing Tastes Of Telugu Audiences

Posted : August 12, 2018 at 1:51 pm IST by ManaTeluguMovies

In recent times, there has been a perceptible change in the taste of Telugu audiences. No longer are they just watching the routine song-and-dance films but are encouraging young filmmakers who come out with something different.

To be more precise, earlier, the story used to be considered the soul of a film but now, it is more characterisation-driven.

Arjun Reddy did remarkably well at the ticket-window and while there are people who differ with the film because of the lip-locks and anti-conventional mannerisms of the protagonist, the fact remains that the unique characterisation of the hero more than the story appealed to the youth.

RX 100 falls in the same category. Similarly, we have Shekhar Kammula’s Fidaaa which really doesn’t boast of a sensible story line. But since the film was a clean drama sans any vulgarity, it earned even more than the above two films with all sections of the audiences watching it.

Sai Pallavi’s standout performance as a Telangana girl and her characterisation solely contributed to the film’s massive victory.

Pelli Choopulu’s victory is also a testimonial to the character sketches of the hero and heroine as are the recent blockbusters Mahanati and Goodachari.

It’s not easy to be able to engage the audience on the strength of characterisation alone rather than the whole plot but when the young directors have attempted it successfully, they have been well appreciated by the audiences and the success of the above films is testimonial to this fact.

The well-entrenched film families in the industry can learn a thing or two from this new crop of directors.
