The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is being speculated to announce his resignation at a press conference on January 3rd even as senior leaders say this will set the stage for the projection of Rahul Gandhi as the Congress party’s PM candidate.
In order to thrash perception that his party will struggle to reverse its fortune in the national election now just months away, Dr Singh will reportedly use his press conference to highlight the accomplishments of his government and also create the ground for the announcement of Rahul Gandhi as his party’s presumptive prime minister.
This is the first time in close to five years that the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be addressing a press conference and rumors are rife because the PM is never known to hold media conferences. He is also officially expected to announce that he is out of the prime minister’s race after the 2014 elections. This sudden news is creating a lot of buzz regarding his resignation or may be even resignation of full cabinet to advance Lok Sabha polls.
