In what could be described as an utter-tragic incident, a 9-year-old Florida girl died on Saturday after her nearly 150-kg cousin sat on her as a form of punishment.

Veronica Green Posey, 64, the culprit in the case, told police that she sat on the girl in an armchair only to teach her discipline. She added that when she got up 10 minutes later, the girl was gasping for breath and unresponsive. She called the paramedics immediately, who then rushed the girl to nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Posey was charged with homicide and cruelty towards a child. The girl’s parents have also been charged with child neglect for allegedly failing to report the abuse. The girl’s mother was additionally charged with cruelty towards a child, as the main culprit cited she asked her to teach her daughter manners, even if by force.

All three were taken into custody and an investigation is in progress.
