In a highly disturbing and horrific crime, a minor girl was raped by 22 men for seven months. This utter shocking incident took place in Chennai.
A class seven girl who has a hearing disorder was sexually assaulted for more than seven months by 22 men including security guards, elevator operators and plumbers at an apartment complex in Purasawalkam in the heart of the Chennai. Police have investigated the matter and arrested 18 suspects and are hunting for the others involved.
As per the police, the perpetrators sedated the victim with injections, offered her drug-laced soft drinks and a powder that they made her sniff before sexually molesting her. Much to the shock and dismay, the assaulters had video-graphed themselves in the act.
The perpetrators blackmailed the girl into silence for seven months with the threat of releasing the videos and resorting to violence.
How It Came To Light?
The whole issue came into light when the girl on Saturday shared her shocking trauma with her elder sister, a college student, who had visited home from Delhi. The elder sister immediately informed her parents who lodged complaint with women police.
How and Where?
The girl told police that 66-year-old Ravi Kumar, an elevator operator in the largely unoccupied 300-flat complex, first sexually violated her. Three days later, Ravi brought two men who were drunk and smelling of alcohol, videotaped themselves raping her. Other men soon joined in the horrific crime and continued the assault on the little girl repeatedly.
What’s more shocking and disgusting was that the assault continued at basement, public washrooms, the terrace and gym of the complex where Ravi and his accomplices raped her repeatedly. Since many of the flats were unoccupied, suspects continued their brazen act. As soon as the girl gets down from her school van, accused Ravi who was blackmailing her would lead away her to the spot where he and his aides would violate her.
Where were parents?
Apparently, the girl’s father was away at work through most of the day. Shockingly, the girl’s mother who is a homemaker couldn’t find anything suspicious when the girl was coming home late from school. The girl’s mother assumed that her daughter was playing with friends in the complex.
After learning about the gruesome assault, girl’s parents rushed her to Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital for treatment on Sunday. Doctors who thoroughly examined found that several men had raped her. Police on Monday had recorded her statement in a Mahila court after arresting 18 culprits and booked cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
Cops seized syringes, empty soft drink bottle and sent them to Forensics lab to determine what drugs were used. The officers also seized used condoms for tests.
Who Did It?
Security guards Murugesh, aged 54, Palani, aged 40, Abishek, aged 23, Sugumaran, aged 60, Prakash, aged 58 and Umapathy, aged 42 have been identified. Elevator operators Ravi Kumar, aged 66, Paramasivam, aged 60, Dheenadayalan, aged 50, Srinivasan, aged 45, Babu, aged 36, and plumbers Jaiganesh, aged 23, Raja, aged 32, Surya, aged 23, Suresh, aged 32, and electrician Jayaraman, aged 26, a house-keeping employee Rajasekhar, aged 40, and a gardener Gunasekhar, aged 55, were involved in this horrific rape.
