The Supreme Court on Monday gave a ruling that Election Commission was authorized to disqualify a candidate if he or she were found guilty of lodging false accounts of election expenditure.

A bench of Justices AK Parnaik and Kalifulla opined EC has got every right to hold an inquiry into correctness of the accounts of election expenditure and disqualify the candidate lying about poll expenses. The remarks came in the background of former Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan’s petition challenging the EC’s jurisdiction to probe his poll expenses. Apex Court dismissed Chavan’s petition by saying it falls under the jurisdiction of EC and given a time period of 45 days to complete the probe.

A senior political analyst says, All the YSR Congress candidates will be disqualified if Election Commission conducts an inquiry into their election expenditure. Each of these candidates have been spending any where between Rs 20 crore to Rs 75 crore to win single seat. Two of the YSRC MP Candidates weren’t even hesitating to cross the Rs 100 crore mark when it comes to poll expenses. Whose money is it?  This is just a portion of the black money these tainted leaders earned with their quid-pro-quo deals during YSR’s regime.
