One among the promises made by KCR during the elections campaign was pension for beedi workers. Deputy CLP leader in Telangana Legislative Council, Mohammed Ali Shabbir has alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is cheating nearly 10 lakh beedi workers by going back on promise of giving them pension.
“KCR has promised pension for beedi workers during the election campaign. The same promise was included in the TRS manifesto. Nizamabad has highest number of 3.5 lakh beedi workers, followed by Warangal, Karimnagar and Adilabad. However, there is no clarity on the implementation of this promise although I raised the issue in Telangana council twice.
TRS Government needs to clarify whether the pension by the State Government will be separate from the existing pension of Rs.1, 000 being given by the Centre. With this kind of working process, promises of KCR turning Telangana State into China is impossible,” Shabbir Ali said.
