Skype, popular over the top (OTT) telecom player announced that it will end calling facility from its application on landline and mobile phones with in India starting from Nov 10. Microsft, the technology giant, parent company of Skype in a press statement said Skype will end calling support with in India.
Skype is extensively used to make voice or video calls using any internet service for which users are charged only for internet. Microsoft announced that Indian users still can make skype to skype free calls across the world. Skype WiFi and SMS facilities are available to Indian users.
Microsoft came with this decision after Department of telecommunications (DoT) decided to block voice over internet protocols by OTT companies as the caller details are concealed. Union Home Ministry wrote letter to block the voice, citing security risk following which Department of telecommunications (DoT) blocked the services.
