It is almost certain that Shamshabad Airport will undergo a name change. The Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju confirmed that the name is going to change as NTR Airport. It is known that Chandra Babu is hell bent on changing the name promoting Telugu Desam Party founder, NT Rama Rao. The airport was planned to be named as NTR airport. All the approvals for the airport are brought by Chandra Babu Naidu’s government.

But by the time it was complete, Congress party is in power both in the center and state. They changed the name as Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Telugu Desam Party had fought for it in and outside the parliament but Center did not consider them. Now the Congress being out of Power both in the state and center, NTR fans hope the airport will be renamed. NTR has done remarkable things for Telugu community (Telangana, Seemandhra people). Rather than naming it as Rajiv Gandhi, who is not related to Telugus by any way and in fact belittled Telugu pride by insulting former CM like Anjaiah.

However Telangana government has 12% stake in the airport, it has to be seen if TRS government will agree for the name change. Telugu Desam Party leaders say NTR has abolished Patel Patwari system in Telangana and instrumental for the growth of Telangana people. We will have to see how the issue pans out in the coming days.
