The proposal to set up second airport is back on the table as Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao who called on PM Narendra Modi on Saturday raised the topic. KCR apparently told Modi over the necessity of setting up a second airport in Hyderabad as the city receives global passengers on daily basis. KCR explained him about the necessity and if it is set up, the increase in the business of IT, hospitality and in turn raises the growth of employment.

According to highly placed sources, KCR doesn’t want to renovate, develop existing Begumpet airport as he feels that it is centrally located and doesn’t fit into the bill as it only causes unnecessary traffic and he feels that it suits for domestic purposes. KCR is of the opinion that he wants to set up new airport in the Northern part of the city and still the talk is in its nascent phases.

Amidst growing reports that Andhra Pradesh is going to have 14 airports for the 13 districts, KCR has increased his pitch for the second airport in Hyderabad so that Hyderabad will not lose the race in global opportunities and should not slow down in attracting MNCs. So, if all goes well, Hyderabad will soon have its second airport. The big question is that is it really needed as existing Shamshabad serving the maximum purpose. Is it just an extra burden or really there is a necessity?
