Director Neelakanta’s Maaya, based on Extrasensory Perception (ESP), is a welcome entry into Telugu filmdom which is usually filled with commercial potboilers. The makers have held a premiere show on Thursday in Hyderabad. And the talk was good to mixed.
Besides pitch-perfect performance of Harshavardhan Rane, who showed motley emotions with ease, the romantic track between lead pair works to an extent. Above all, it is the movie’s fitting climax that does the magic (Maaya) and rescues the film. Screenplay for the last 20-minute is thrilling and makes a difference to the film. Despite few snags in the first half and a handful of draggy scenes, the film gains pace in the second half. Cinematography, music and editing have worked in favour of the film. Costumes are bright and songs are shot well. Watch it for the film’s novel concept and decent execution.
