Now a golf course in Golconda Fort

The Golconda fort used to be a bustling market for diamonds during the Asaf Jahi rulers who held the Kohinorr and also the Jacob diamond at the fort. But today the Fort has got a brand new golf course, the country’s first with in a fort.

Golconda fort which became the venue for the independence day celebrations of Telagnana state can now boast of being the country’s first heritage golf course. Telengana IT and Panchayat Raj minister KT Rama Rao today inaugurated the 18 holes golf course with world class fair-ways spread over an area of 140 acres in and around the historic Golconda Fort.

The Hyderabad Golf Association (HGA), HGA is the first and only public golf course in Hyderabad wherein general public can also play by paying a very nominal fee for even a single day.
 
Touted as India’s only Heritage Golf Course, with all the 18 holes, 6000+ yards and Par 71 over TifDwarf and Calcutta Dhoop grass, in the vicinity of Jamalikunta & Naya Qila. HGA has   developing the course since 2002 and over a period of 12 years transformed what was a municipal garbage dump yard( within the fort).

 J Vikramdev Rao, President – The Hyderabad Golf Association said, the golf course which would not only promote the game of golf but also give a major impetus to Hyderabad on the International tourism map. 
 
The Golf Course has also got the privilege to host some major tournaments such as BMW National Golf Championship and Corporate golf tournaments of BMW, AUDI, Volvo, Jaguar, South Zone juniors, Addicts Golfing, CII, Karnataka Tourism Cup and many more.
