A delegation of Association of Power producers led by DG Ashok Khurana, Anil Ambani of Reliance ADAG, GV Sanjay Reddy, LL Madhusudhan Rao (Lanco) and GBS Raju (GMR group) called on AP CM Chandrababu Naidu at Lake view guest house.
During the discussions the power producers raised the issue of urgent need of gas supply to gas based plants of which 2233 MW units were lying idle in state for lack of gas supply. Some more gas plants with capacity of 4061 MW did not begin operations.
They also requested him to use his good offices with the centre that additional gas which is likely to be made available from new ONGC/GSPC fields should be given to AP. Power projects on priority basis.They wanted the CM to organize meeting with Prime Minister to discuss the burning issues of the of Power industry.
Chief Minister heard their plea and also assured them to take up the issue with centre for setting up an LNG terminal and a floating Storage and re-gasification unit (FSRU) at Gangavaram and Kakinada in KG basin and also reduce VAT on gas by two percent to benefit both state and power consumers. He also agreed to consider their request and take up the matter with Government of India in the interest of the State and consumers.
