When PM Modi launched his prestigious scheme of opening zero balance accounts for all citizens in a single day, many wondered what purpose it would serve. Opposition parties mocked at his scheme and others pointed loopholes in Government decision to trasfer Govt reimbursements to the accounts saying middle men will loot and funds will be locked for decades without getting transferred into the peoples accounts.

However Modi during his mega hit speech at Madison Square Garden addressing 20000 NRIs revealed some shocking truth about Jan Dhan Yojana. He said more than Rs 1500 crores had been deposited in banks though people could have zero balance accounts.

Modi said Bohra Muslim brothers are aware of what money lenders can do to people. He said the scheme is aimed at eradicating financial untouchability. Government is planning to provide zero-balance bank account with RuPay debit card, life insurance cover of Rs 30,000 in addition to accidental insurance cover of Rs 1 lakh under the scheme. Account holders will also have overdraft facility of up to Rs 5,000.
