In what is being seen as big boost to trade, the Kakinada deep water port will be soon having a container terminal. Reports say this will be used for handling exports and imports that also includes hardware, rice and seafood.
Kakinada Sea Ports Limited has inked an agreement with PSA Singapore Terminals for establishing a cargo terminal in the deep-water port, which is expected to be operational in the next three months. The container terminal is seen as the boon as the Central government had announced in the Union budget that Kakinada would be developed as a pioneering hardware hub and the port will also be upgraded for handling hardware exports.
APIIC is reportedly working to identify 100 acres of land near Kakinada port for a container freight station and multi-model logisticpark. Soon, the Vizag-Chennai economic corridor, Kakinada’s destination as deep water port, the proposed economic cluster and the hardware industry if successful can boost AP like never before.
