The Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to renovate and preserve the century-old ‘G-block’ in Secretariat which was resurrected by NTR in eighties in view of its excellent Vastu. He is not happy with the seating arrangements and other aspects of the present chambers in the C block which has been hot seat for CM’s.
All the three CM’s who occupied it-Chandrababu, YSR and Kiran Kumar Reddy- had bad periods While Chandrababu had survived a land mine blast, YSR died in chopper crash and, KKR had an most ignominious and disastrous end of his political career.
The building was constructed by the sixth Nizam in 1888 and was named Saifabad Palace and the nerve center of administration during the Nizam era will be renovated at a cost of nearly Rs 20 crore. It housed several Chief Ministers like Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, NTR and Nedurumalli Janardhan Reddy. Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is planning to shift his office to G-block after it is renovated.
The Chief Minister’s Office was shifted from G-Block to C-Block in 1994. The G block had been declared an antique and its demolition has been opposed by the environmentalists. Without proper maintenance the building now in the AP side of the secretariat has become an eye sore .
