Elections to the AP film chamber of commerce which were scheduled to be held this month-end have been postponed for two months in view of the row put up by the Telangana film fraternity for a division of the film chamber.
The Telangana film fraternity have refused to accept the post of president to an local exhibitor (rotation post) as a plot by AP film makers to prevent division of the chamber. The post of President is rotated every year among exhibitors, distributors, producers and studio owners to aviod contest for top posts.
According to sources, filmmakers from AP, who dominate the film chamber, have reportedly decided to meet Telangana chief minister KCR, ask him to intervene to prevent the division of the chamber and would abide by whatever he decides. Telangana filmmakers, however, reportedly want the AP film chamber of commerce to be bifurcated to represent only the 13 AP districts.
The AP film chamber of commerce has 6,000 members including producers, distributors, exhibitors and studio owners. Elections for the posts of president, three vice-presidents, two honorary secretaries, six honorary joint secretaries, one treasurer and chairmen for four different sectors (Nizam, ceeded, circa and Seema) are held every year.
