It was the late Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy who started the padayatra, at a time when several districts were neglected by the then ruling party TDP till 2004.Chandra Babu Naidu was more interested to bring Hyderabad to international arena by attracting the foreign IT companies. Though the city has developed at a faster pace, the development of several villages were neglected which led to farmers committing suicide and being homeless. Every section of the society found it relevant and flooded Dr. YSR’s padayatra with requests, requisitions, petitions and complaints. Now several leaders are following the same path of Padayatra to victory in the next coming elections in 2014.
Naidu’s yatra is also an attempt to regain the lost glory of party. Naidu would walk 2,340 km covering all the major districts of Andhra Pradesh. The party leaders have kept a constant watch on Mr. Naidu regarding his health. A team of doctors and a personal cook are also traveling with him in his state wide yatra. Naidu will reportedly walk 10 miles every day along with his party workers. This may bring a lot of political mileage in the upcoming elections. The opposition leader of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly is expected to cover over 2,000 kms in 117 days.
Earlier Jagan Mohan Reddy’s Odarpu yatra gained a lot of sympathy among the people. YSR’s daughter Sharmila’s Padayatra is also on the same path and is reaching out to many people. Though both the parties have been criticizing against each other, people are coming in crowds and have been giving warm welcome in the districts hoping their problems will be resolved. This time the Congress Government is keeping an owl eye’s watch on these yatras as this may hamper the party’s chances of winning in the next elections.
