A day after the Supreme Court banned sale and registration of BS-III model vehicles from April 1, market leaders Hero MotoCorp and Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) have offered unheard discounts to sell as many as units before the deadline expires.

Market leader Hero MotoCorp has offered discounts of Rs 12,500 on scooters, Rs 7,500 on premium bikes and Rs 5,000 on entry level mass market motorcycles. On the other hand, the number two player HMSI has offered a discount of Rs 10,000 on all its BS-III model vehicles. The offer will be valid till the stock last or up to March 31.

In fact, the dealership community hoped that the apex court would provide more time to sell their stocks but as that did not happen, their focus has shifted to sell out the inventory even if they have to offer insane amount of discounts. As per reports, the target of dealers is to sell nearly 6.71 lakh two-wheelers in these two days.

Citing that health of the people is far more important than the commercial interests of manufacturers, the Supreme Court on Wednesday said that automobile firms must manufacture only BS-IV compliant vehicles from April 1, 2017.
