Hudhud’ Makes Landfall At Vizag

As predicted by Indian Meteorological Department, severe storm Hudhud has made its landfall at Vizag, an hour before the actual time. Hitting Rishikonda area of Vizag with heavy intensity, Hudhud has kept north-coastal Andhra on its toes.

Upgrading the intensity of storm, officials declared that this is severe cyclonic storm, as it made landfall at Rishikonda in Vizag with visibility of the area reaching near zero. This massive cyclone has kept entire eastern India on high alert, though officials made all arrangements it became tough in Vizag to reach the affected, say media reports.

Already massive downpour has shut Vizag, Bheemli and other areas in three coastal districts including Vizag, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam. Severity of windfall might increase in coming hours as the speed of wind is expected to touch 195 kmph. The super cyclonic storm might persist for almost 6 hours, while downpour will continue for another 24-48 hours.

Smashing winds has already uprooted trees, electric poles and collapsed weak structures in Bheemli and parts of Vizag.

Indian Navy confirmed that Hudhud is crossing coast of Visakhapatnam at 190 kmph. Rescue teams like the Coast Guard and NDRF has been put on standby as the storm affected all the road traffic in Vizag.

Hudhud bring the steel city to virtual closure. Strong wings of 150 kmph are blowing the city and waves as high as 2-3 meters are seen everywhere. Hudhud is expected to continue its disaster for another 2 hours at wing speeds of 195 kmph.

Vizag closed its airport, and even Hindustan Shipyard closed its operations. Gangavaram airport stopped its operations. In Odissa ITBP jawans are carrying out relief operations.Strong winds and heavy rains are lashing the sea coast. Normal life is hit severely with power supply interrupted and trees uprooted by strong gales.
