Going by highly reliable sources, Andhra Pradesh government is contemplating to merge both Guntur and Vijayawada into one as the new capital for the successor State. The move is part of building a world-class capital.
Merging of both Guntur and Vijayawada makes it larger than Greater Hyderabad geographically and gives scope to beat Hyderabad-Secunderabad and develop on par with Singapore. We hear that Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu wants to develop capital between Vijayawada and Guntur or close to these two cities such that people, employees descended in capital city shoud not suffer for accommodation, schools, hospitals and other facilities. Hence, Mr Naidu is of the opinion that Vijayawada-Guntur is ideal place to set up a capital.
Meanwhile, government of AP has chalked out plan for building capital. The state-level advisory committee on capital city is coming up with a list of designers, architects, urban development experts and engineers in planning, building infrastructure and other necessary facilities. THe committee, as per its deliberations with experts, will finalize an eligibility criteria for global tenders.
The global tenders will be invited only after August 20, after Sivaramakrishnan committee submits its final report and after AP government making a formal declaration on the location of new capital. Although Mr Naidu has told that Vijayawada as “temporary” capital and directed officials to shift government offices to Vijayawada, buzz is that this would be AP’s “permanent” capital soon.
