Animal-rights activist Maneka Gandhi has made an impressive comeback to the union cabinet and she is today the only member of the Gandhi family who has been seen in BJP-led government.
The seven-time MP and the daughter-in-law of former PM Indira Gandhi, Maneka Sanjay Gandhi was also part the previous NDA government under Atal Bihari Vajpayee as she took up the role of first Animal Welfare Minister of the country.
Now Maneka has again won from the Pilibhit constituency by a margin of over 3 lakh votes. She had joined politics after the death of her husband Sanjay Gandhi in an air crash in the year 1980.
There are many expectations from the Hindu community that she will work hard to make sure that sacred cows are preserved in India. Over the years, Maneka has been working extensively for animal welfare and development of women.
