Daggubati Purandeswari, who gave tough fight to YSR Congress candidate Mithun Reddy in the initial rounds in Rajampeta Lok Sabha constituency in Kadapa district, has finally lost to him. 30-odd-old Mithun has beaten veterans Purandeswari and sitting MP Sai Prathap Reddy and won with a stunning majority of over 1.2 Lakh.
Many had thought that Modi’s mania would bail out Purandeswari and Sai Prathap would eat YSRCP votes. Contrary to this perception, Purandeswari failed to overcome the hurdles. Purandeswari was supposed to be in fray from Vizag Lok Sabha from where she had represented in 2009 elections. Since BJP wanted to field Kambhampati Hari Babu from Vizag, Purandeswari was compelled to contest from Rajampeta which might have spoiled her winning chances.
