State Election Commissioner Bhanwer Lal is now concentrating on elections of Legislative Councils both in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. There are about 10 MLC vacancies that EC need to fill in both states. Elections for 8 MLCs in AP and 2 in Telangana under the local bodies’ quota are likely to be held in September month. Bhanwer Lal wrote a letter to all district collectors on list of voters.
AP gets 50 MLCs and Telangana 40 MLCs after the bifurcation of the state. Two MLCs each in Chittoor and Guntur districts in AP and one each in Adilabad and Warangal districts are need to be filled with this election. There is one MLC seat each in Vizaianagaram, Vishakhapatnam, East Godavari, Krishna, Prakasam, Kurnool and Ananthapuram district. Respective elected local body representatives are considered as voters in the district.
State Election Commission would refer CEC for notification after receiving list of voters from the district Collectors. Politically, TDP would get 7 MLCs out of 8 MLC in AP. TDP won more than 80% of local bodies in recent local elections. Except in Kurnool, TDP has swept majority of local bodies in the above districts. TRS definitely won Two MLCs in Adilabad and Warangal districts.
