On his state visit to India, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott returned back two ancient priceless idols which were stolen and seized from Australian Museum. Indian Government after finding the precious idols in a the National Gallery of Australia asked the country to return back the idols which belonged to them. However Australian Government purchased the idols from Subhash Kapoor based in New York for a sum of Rs 30 crore ($5 million).
The ancient Chola idols of Nataraja Adand and Ardhanarsiwara were stolen by thieves from Tamil Nadu and for quite sometime authorities lost track of them. The idols were later sold by Subhash Kapoor, who sold to Australian Govt. Subhash Kapoor later admitted that his manager created falsified documents of ownership to hide illicit origins. Australian PM Tony Abbott as a good gesture decided to return the idols at a state reception at the Rashtrapathi Bhawan.
This is making many wonder can India get back stolen Kohinoor diamond from the British Government. The Britishers looted and took back India’s pride Kohinoor diamond and claims to be theirs. Kohinoor finds its origins in Golconda in Telangana and it will be a great gesture if British PM too follows Australian PM’s gesture.
