Telangana Congress President Ponnala Lakshmaiah on Wednesday demanded that the State Government recognise the sacrifices of all martyrs of Telangana. In an informal chat with reporters at Gandhi Bhavan, Ponnala said that the TRS Government has extended financial assistance to the families of only 462 martyrs.
Describing the list submitted by the District Collectors as inaccurate, he claimed that the more number of people have laid down their lives for the cause of Telangana. He said hundreds of people have participated in the movement since 1969 and instead of taking the cut-off date to 2009, the government should recognise the sacrifices made by all martyrs and extend financial assistance to their families. He said all those who played a role in the Telangana formation should be appropriately honoured.
Ponnala also slammed the State Government for delay in waiving off the farmers’ loans. He said that the farmers faces the risk of losing crop insurance for Khariff season due to the delay in remittance of first installment of loan waiver amount. He said that the government should speak to the Central Government and insurance companies to ensure that the farmers get the crop insurance for Khariff season.
