It is known that an FIR has been lodged against BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Wednesday on the charged of violation of model code of conduct. Post exercising his vote at a school in Ahmedabad, Modi displayed a ‘lotus’ which is election symbol of his party before the media and also held a press conference in the premises. This invited the wrath of Election Commission which directed the DGP to file separate FIRs against Modi and TV Channels which telecasted his press meet against the norms.

During his public meeting in Tirupati on the same day, Narendra Modi claimed an FIR has been registered for the first time against him and that’s for showing a ‘lotus’, not for pointing a knife or gun. ‘I will remember this day (April 30th, 2014) all my life,” he added.

Election Commission, however, feels the tone of the address made by Narendra Modi and the way he displayed the lotus symbol might influence the voters. Modi will have to pay a fine or face imprisonment up to 2 years if found guilty.
