People already devastated by cyclone Hudhud in Visakhapatnam received further shock with retailers allegedly jacking up the prices of essential commodities. Retailers are exploiting the situation by cashing in on the tragedy by hiking prices of petrol, vegetables and milk.

Many residents have stood in long queues for hours to stock up essential commodities and retailers have taken the situation to their advantage by increasing the milk prices to Rs 60-80 per litre and one egg costs Rs 15. Even onion and tomato prices have doubled overnight. Cyclone Hudhud has uprooted trees, electric poles, shattered glasses and left several thousands homeless.

With many petrol pumps in the city not working, to cope with the demand working petrol pump owners have started rationing petrol by giving only one litre per customer. The port city is without power for second day in a row and telephone communication lines are slowly coming back to normal.
